Maribyrnong and Hobsons Bay City Councils to enter subcontracting arrangement with Uniting AgeWell
26 February 2019
Following a decision by Maribyrnong and Hobsons Bay City Councils to appoint a not-for-profit provider of in-home support services, it can now be announced that Uniting AgeWell has been awarded the subcontracting tender.
Both Councils will work in partnership with Uniting AgeWell to oversee the delivery of in-home aged care and services to people under 65 with a disability, including home care, personal care, and in-home respite.
Under this arrangement, Council employees will be offered employment with the same terms and conditions, and clients will continue to receive the same high quality of care from the carers they have become familiar with.
Uniting AgeWell has an excellent reputation for quality care and employment, and is a community focussed, not-for-profit organisation with a local presence. They currently provide a range of services to support older adults across Hobsons Bay and Maribyrnong, including social support groups, in-home respite services and Home Care Packages, and are well placed to provide support to local clients.
“Uniting AgeWell’s focus is on helping people to live well with choice and peace of mind. As more people choose to live in their homes longer, providing high quality, tailored support is integral. Together, we can continue to make a real difference to the lives of older people in the inner west.” Uniting AgeWell CEO Andrew Kinnersly said.
“The decision to enter a subcontracting arrangement is about continuing to support our clients, community and employees, and we are looking forward to working in partnership with the provider to make sure this happens,” City of Maribyrnong Mayor Cr Martin Zakharov said.
Mayor of Hobsons Bay Councillor Jonathon Marsden said both councils are pleased to work with Uniting AgeWell because of their strong client-focussed approach to in-home support services.
“Their strong service offering, as well as their commitment to ongoing local employment for our staff, means that this appointment is a great outcome for the community and workforce of Hobsons Bay and Maribyrnong,” said Cr Marsden.
Maribyrnong and Hobsons Bay City Councils will work closely with Uniting AgeWell over the coming months to transition staff and clients to the new provider, with a service commencement date likely to take place in June 2019.
The decision follows a joint tender process between Maribyrnong and Hobsons Bay City Councils that included extensive market sounding and research to identify a values aligned provider that could deliver quality care for clients.
Both Councils announced the provider to relevant staff earlier today and will communicate with clients regarding the appointment of Uniting AgeWell.
