Garage Sale Trail to support Bayside seniors programs
October 13, 2016
Uniting AgeWell Girrawheen Centre and the Brighton Lions Club are joining together to raise money for seniors programs at the Murphy Street social support centre in this year’s Garage Sale Trail.
Uniting AgeWell Girrawheen Centre Coordinator, Rossella Frezza, said the Garage Sale Trail, on Saturday, October 22, attracted over 300,000 bargain-loving shoppers nationally.
“This year we’ve combined efforts with the Brighton Lions Club to raise money and support some of the most vulnerable people in our community - our seniors,” she said.
“The event is part of an ongoing partnership between Uniting AgeWell Girrawheen Centre and the Brighton Lions Club, to help create ‘senior friendly’ communities in the Bayside area.”
Rossella said businesses were increasingly recognising the needs of seniors and wanted to give back.
Earlier this year, popular Bay Street café, Tuccibrown, partnered with the Brighton Lions Club and donated 30 cents from every coffee sold in the month of April towards the Girrawheen Centre.
The money went towards providing music therapy for a client with mental health issues.
Uniting AgeWell Girrawheen Centre offers a range of activities and support programs for seniors including social outings, exercise classes, in-house activities, early onset dementia support groups, men’s group and multi-lingual gatherings.
Rossella said the day would be a paradise for treasure hunters, ethical shoppers and people wanting to find something different and support a good cause.
To contribute pre-loved treasures such as clothes, books, kitchenware and small furniture items, please contact the Girrawheen Centre on 9596 0347 or 0487 779 788.
The Brighton Lions Club will also be organising a sausage sizzle on the day.
Uniting AgeWell Girrawheen Centre is located at 3 Murphy Street, Brighton.
Media are invited to attend the event.
