Tasmanian Governor to open community hub for seniors

September 2, 2016

A new one-stop-shop for Hobart seniors will be opened by her Excellency Professor the Honourable Kate Warner, AM, Governor of Tasmania, on Tuesday, September 6.

The Uniting AgeWell Community Hub in Moonah will serve as a community resource connecting older people to the information and services they need to age well.

Seniors can drop in for advice on services, including home care, community support and independent living and residential aged care, and receive help with navigating the complex aged care referral system, My Aged Care.

It will also hold regular information sessions on important topics such as healthy eating and advocacy, and activities such as Christmas card making.

It is the first such Hub for Uniting AgeWell, Tasmania’s largest not-for-profit aged care provider.

Uniting AgeWell Tasmania Coordinator Community Services, Lee Marsh, said the organisation supported hundreds of people across Hobart to live and age well.

“Our focus is on connecting people to the support and care they want to age well, whether that be through help at home, social support, respite and carer support, independent living or residential aged care,” she said.

“Our Community Hub will be a one-stop-shop for all our services and connect us with seniors across the city.”

Lee said Uniting AgeWell took a different approach to ageing.

“We see ageing as a positive stage of life where people are connected and active, and lead meaningful lives.”

The Uniting AgeWell Community Hub is located at 92-94 Main Road, Moonah.

Media are invited to attend the event.
