Uniting AgeWell appoints new Board chair

Raelene Thompson has been appointed the new chair of the Uniting AgeWell Board.

Raelene, who has extensive experience in aged care, replaces Rev Allan Thompson, who is retiring from the Board after nine years, including the last three as chair.

Raelene has previously managed the Commonwealth Aged Care Standards and Accreditation Agency for Victoria and Tasmania and was a state manager for the Commonwealth Department of Health and Ageing.

Most recently, Raelene was acting CEO/COO of Wesley Mission during its transition to the Uniting brand.  She had been a Board member for five years prior to moving into the role.

She said she was interested in governance, quality and risk management, social services and program management. 

“I have a passion for making sure vulnerable older people get the best care and are enabled to live the life they want to live,” she said.

“As the chairperson, I will continue the tradition of good governance and commitment that the Board has shown over many years, under Allan’s leadership.

“I will also support and guide the executive of the organisation; and recognise and acknowledge staff and volunteers’ good work.”

Raelene said her ultimate aim was to ensure Uniting AgeWell was seen as a leader in the aged care industry – respected for its high standard of care and the enriched environment it creates for people in our community who trust us to be part of their lives.

Outgoing Board Chair Allan Thompson said he was delighted with Raelene’s appointment and was pleased to know the Board, and Uniting AgeWell, remained in experienced and capable hands.

Raelene was inducted into the Board in October and will take over as Chair in February.
