Victoria University volunteers were out in force at Uniting AgeWell Kingsville Community, as they spent their annual volunteer day, V4U, assisting residents in their preparations for the Emirates Melbourne Cup Tour this Friday.
More than 20 enthusiastic volunteers from all areas of the university assisted residents with decorating a rose arbour, playing mock horse racing games and a special afternoon tea.
Kingsville also welcomed key members of Victoria University as part of its Centenary celebrations, including Vice Chancellor Professor Peter Dawkins.
Prof Dawkins said Victoria University had built a great relationship with UA’s Kingsville Community over the years and appreciated the opportunity to be part of the exciting Melbourne Cup Tour event.
Kingsville Community Manager Integrated Services, Christine Harwood, said V4U was a valuable supporter of the Kingsville Community, assisting with leisure and lifestyle activities and enabling the site to enhance the range of activities offered to clients. She said,
volunteers play an integral role in the work we do, making a positive difference to the lives of the people we support.
Christine said the day was a great success for all, with volunteers and residents thoroughly enjoying each other’s company.
"The volunteers were exceptional. UA is honoured to share this historic event with Victoria University as part of its Centenary Year celebrations."
