Uniting AgeWell is incredibly proud to be the founding industry partner of Forever Young, a unique program using puppetry to enhance the health and wellbeing outcomes for people in aged care settings.
And it has already brought great joy to residents at five of our aged care residences in Tasmania. The Terrapin Puppet Theatre’s innovative program Residents at Uniting AgeWell Mornington Community Lillian Martin have been deeply involved in the project, co-designing the show through a series of workshops intended to tap into their collective memories to create an experience that resonates with older people.
And it got the thumbs up from residents at Uniting AgeWell’s Rosetta communities of Strathglen and Strathaven; Mornington Community Lillian Martin; Sorrel Community Ningana and Queenborough Rise who were the first to experience it.
To everyone’s delight, the show started the minute the puppet troupe entered through the doors. The performance included not only the show, but the interaction with residents in the hallways and lounges as well as bedside visits to those unable to attend the show.
There was much excitement when an ABC TV crew turned up to the performance at Lillian Martin – with the show featured on the ABC 7.30 program.
Uniting AgeWell Projects Coordinator, Research and Innovation Teresa Soderlund, said, “They were feel-good performances that residents were actually part of, and they loved it!”
