International Women’s Day on 8 March is an opportunity to recognise the impact of valued members of our team.
This year’s theme is March Forward – commemorating 30 years since the United Nation’s declaration to achieve gender equality.
While the success and impact of our work relies on all our people thriving, on International Women’s Day we reflect on the opportunity we have to create career pathways for women, and to celebrate their journeys and the daily impact they make through their work.
Here are a few stories of women who feel empowered by Uniting AgeWell to be the best that they can be. Click through to read their full stories:
- Karen Myers is driven by her heart – and her ears! The Swan Hill Home Care Worker who received the 2024 AgeWell Excellence Award for Home and Community Care Victoria, stresses the importance of listening to her customers - deep listening that allows her to fully respond to their needs.
- Benjamas (Key) Hamilton has progressed from her initial role as a cleaner, to working in the laundry to becoming a Food Services Assistant at Strath-Haven Community. Now she’s studying to become a Personal Care Worker and next plans to qualify as a nurse.
- Wangaratta Care Advisor Teresa Knight is part of the heartbeat of regional Victoria. She enjoys living as part of a rural community and also working in a role which gives back to others. It’s a big part of her life.
- Launceston Home Care Worker Carmen Marsh loves her job. Her only regret is that she didn’t get into aged care sooner. She worked in the retail and hospitality industries before deciding in her mid-40’s that she wanted to follow her heart and study aged care.
- Denise Joss has a smile as big as her heart. Her ready smile and positive attitude were just a couple of the reasons that saw her receive the AgeWell Award for excellence in Home and Community Tasmania.
