Pinky Mali is a shining example of how hard work and enthusiasm leads not only to a rewarding role - but one with clear career advancement.
Pinky is the Senior Care Manager at Uniting AgeWell Noble Park Community and is thrilled to be in a role that makes such a difference in older people's lives.
She was born in Fiji, studied accounting and economics and started work as an accountant. She moved to Australia to join her fiance, and discovered it was difficult to find a job in accounting.
“So I looked at areas where there was a clear need for good staff – and aged care stood out," she explains.
Pinky did a Cert III in Aged Care and Disability, and started working as a personal care worker. Then studied to become an enrolled nurse. She joined Uniting AgeWell in 2014 and found she was far more fulfilled working with older people than with ledgers.
“Working in aged care comes from the heart,” Pinky says. “It is a privilege to help older people, they depend on us.”
Determined to progress, she completed a degree in nursing through Monash University, and started working at a hospital to gain more experience.
But the pull back to aged care was strong, and she returned to Uniting AgeWell as Care Manager and was then promoted to Senior Care Manager in November 2021.
She describes Uniting AgeWell as both inclusive and caring. “They invest in us and empower us all to be the best that we can be,” she explains. “It’s wonderful to know they are with me every step of my aged care journey.”
