UA opens its first Community Hub

Hobart seniors can now access a new one-stop-shop for information about aged care, with the opening of the new Uniting AgeWell Community Hub.

The Community Hub was officially opened by Her Excellency Professor the Honourable Kate Warner, AM, Governor of Tasmania, on Tuesday, September 6.

She was joined by Federal Labor Member for Franklin and Shadow Minister for Ageing and Mental Health, Julie Collins, Labor Senator for Tasmania Lisa Singh and members of the Hobart and Clarence city councils.

Uniting AgeWell Deputy Board Chair Wendy Quinn, Interim Executive Director Peter Folliot and members of the Senior Executive Team also attended.

The Community Hub is the first shop front for Uniting AgeWell, and signals a new way of meeting the needs of the community.

Wendy Quinn said the Board was looking to replicate the Hub in other areas of need across Tasmania and Victoria.

Acting General Manager Tasmania Jane Johnston said the Community Hub would allow UA to respond more effectively and flexibly to consumer needs and expectations.

“The vision for the space is to increase the profile of Uniting AgeWell’s service offerings within the local community and to promote its position as a trusted advisor – the place for older Tasmanians to go for information, advice and support,” she said.

“It’s an example of AgeWell Connect in action.”

The Community Hub will facilitate:

  • promotion and delivery of Home Care Packages
  • promotion and sales of UA services such as residential care, independent living, social support  and respite
  • community connection

Individuals will be able to attend information sessions, utilise an internet kiosk, receive support and training on how to access MyAgedCare, speak with staff about services available to support their needs and obtain brochures and information packs.

The first information session is on Thursday, September 15, 11am-12pm,  and will give advice on residential care and independent living.  No bookings are required.

The Hub is also home to the Community Services team, which moved from the Lillian Martin residential site in Mornington.

The Community Hub is located at 92-94 Main Road, Moonah.   T: (03) 6282 1193.
