WorkSafe 2017 Awards recognition

Uniting AgeWell has been recognised for its approach to work place injuries.

Senior Workers’ Compensation Coordinator, Nathier Kamalie, was last week named runner-up in the Return to Work Coordinator Excellence category at the WorkSafe 2017 Awards.

The annual WorkSafe Awards recognise outstanding contributions to workplace health and safety and to helping injured people return to work.

Nathier has been proactive in helping staff return to work, finding alternative roles and assisting with retraining when some have been unable to return to normal duties.  He said being recognised as an industry leader was “really satisfying”.

“For me, it is being acknowledged in the industry for what we do,” he said.

It is also recognising our good work goes beyond Uniting AgeWell.

CEO Andrew Kinnersly said he was “so proud” of Nathier and the Safety Team for improving the organisation’s approach to injury and return to work.

Nathier is revered for his empathy and his efforts to go above the call of duty to help injured workers and their families.

“I always ask whether there is anything that we can do for them, and I include the family in that process,” Nathier said.

“The whole family is affected in these situations, so I might ask the wife, husband or partner, ‘Can we get you some home help at home?’ or ‘Can we get you a taxi instead of you having to drive?’. I always try to look at the bigger picture.”

Nathier and the Safety Team attended the WorkSafe Awards Gala Dinner at Crown Palladium on Thursday, 19 October.

The Salvation Army’s Lindsey Doolin won the award.  Lindsey was instrumental in developing the psychological health component of the organisation’s Wellbeing Strategy, its Employee Assistance Program and other OHS policies and procedures.
